General Information
Long, sandy beaches, spreading palm trees and impressive coral reefs shimmering with various colors are the specialty of Koh Lanta. This island is simply made for snorkeling, which will absorb you here for hours. The crystal clear water shimmers invitingly in the rays of the hot sun, and the abundance of underwater life around the island gives you goose bumps. Koh Lanta is located in the Andaman Sea and is a real hit of the beautiful province of Krabi. The island is about 6 km wide and 30 km long, so during your stay here you can easily get to know it.
The island has several long, sandy and incredibly charming beaches, so the conditions for sunbathing are simply excellent. Many hotels have elegant spa complexes where you can enjoy Thai massages and many other treatments performed with organic products obtained in the country. Relaxation on Koh Lanta is also ideal for physically active people. We recommend diving, snorkeling, nature trekking and kayaking. In addition, fishing enthusiasts will not be bored on the island.
Where is Koh Lanta?
Koh Lanta is the queen of Krabi province. It captivates with its beautiful nature, lush tropical forest, golden sand beaches, shimmering turquoise water and unique views of the Andaman Sea. Located in Krabi province, in the southwestern part of the country.
In fact, the name "Koh Lanta" covers a dozen or so different islands, the leading ones being Lanta Noi on the north side and Lanta Yai on the south side. The first one is very rarely visited, which is why it has retained its natural character. The second one offers many facilities for tourists and is usually referred to using the term "Koh Lanta". The two islands are separated from each other by a narrow channel, over which there is a bridge, thanks to which we can easily move between them. Lanta Noi is about 1 km away from the mainland. To cover this distance, you have to take a ferry, which also accepts cars.
Top attractions in Koh Lanta
Lanta Old Town
In the capital of the island you will find not only beautiful views, a long pier or a Buddhist temple, but also a lot of souvenir shops (if you are planning to, this is a good place to shop) and many pubs. Visit one of them and try the local dishes that will enchant your taste buds. The streets (or rather a street) of the historical part of the island enchant with wooden houses on stilts, giving the impression that time has stopped there.
night market
Probably the best night market is located in Baan Saladan, where you will find a wide selection of food products and not only. If you like street food, you are also in the right place - you will eat there a lot of great skewers of both meat and vegetables, grilled dishes and sweets. You can quench your thirst with refreshing fruit cocktails. You will also find clothes, accessories and souvenirs at affordable prices.
Mu Koh Lanta National Park
The park, or rather its land part, is located on the southern end of the island, quite far from human settlements. The most interesting point is the lighthouse, which rises in the very south of the island and from which there is a beautiful view of the rest of the park and the surrounding islands. You can drop by here to sunbathe in the shade of the sea almond trees or go for a walk through the jungle on a specially marked trail (take plenty of water with you - the walk takes about 1 hour). It is beautiful and even in the peak season you will be alone most of the time. Walking around the park itself, you can come across monkeys, which are curious and approach people without embarrassment, so it is better to skip the meal in the park, otherwise you will have to share these curious creatures.
Kantiang Bay
Considered one of the most beautiful places in Thailand. The picturesque crescent of the bay delights with a white, sandy beach and crystal clear, emerald water and lush green tropical forests. Kantiang Bay is ideal for blissful relaxation and rest, but is also one of the best diving spots in all of Thailand. Spectacular coral reef, huge diversity of the underwater world and extraordinary water transparency appear as every diver's dream.
The most beautiful beaches of Koh Lanta
Long Beach
The longest beach on Koh Lanta covers a four-kilometer strip in the northwestern part of the island. Due to the unusually large amount of coastal vegetation, it is also called a "green oasis". It is a good place for walks, swimming in the sea or relaxing with children. There are many resorts and restaurants on the beach, but the climate is very calm.
Klong Khong Beach
A rarely visited, three-kilometer beach that delights with its fine-grained golden sand and the relaxed, slightly hippie atmosphere of the bars and pubs. You have to be careful when swimming - the bottom is very rocky, and at low tide, rocks emerge from the water. The beach is one of the best places to admire the sunset.
Ao Nui Bay
A small, delightful beach captivates with postcard views and crystal clear water. Ao Nui Bay is located behind a hill and is not visible from the main road. To get there, first head to the Relax Ao Nui Bay Bar (which, by the way, offers the best views of the bay), then go down the steps.
Koh Lanta cuisine
Thai cuisine is considered by many to be the best in the world, and for good reason! It is a mixture of so many flavors, aromas, scents and colors that it is impossible to resist. What is worth trying? Start with the addictive papaya salad - a combination of sharpness, freshness of papaya and crunchy peanuts. Add carrots, tomatoes, green beans and a sauce based on lime juice, fish sauce and chilli. Despite its spiciness, it is hard to break away from it. Other excellent dishes include padd see ew or pad kee mao, i.e. different versions of fried noodles with additions. In pad see ew, soy sauce plays the dominant role among spices, in pad kee mao - chilli and Thai basil. We recommend it with the addition of flat noodles - large rice dumplings with a specific consistency. For dessert, you cannot fail to try mango sticky rice. It delights with its simplicity and taste. Sticky rice, ripe, sliced mango and a bowl of coconut milk. You can also eat them in many pubs and restaurants.
