Tangalle

A small town on the southern coast of Sri Lanka, which until quite recently was a fishing village. It has a quiet, sleepy atmosphere. Tangalle has not yet been discovered by mass tourism, perhaps because of the strong waves and underwater rocks that make swimming in the sea much more difficult. The town is famous primarily for its wide, golden beaches hidden in several turquoise bays. It is an ideal place to relax in the shade of a palm tree and fully unwind. In the vicinity of Tangalle, there is Rekawa Beach, which is a nesting place for as many as five species of sea turtles. It is also worth visiting the nearby complex of Buddhist temples Mulkirigala carved out of a huge, monolithic rock. Inside, you can admire wonderfully preserved wall paintings.
