General Information

Ranomafana, or “warm water” – a place where hot springs abound – is a captivatingly beautiful tropical forest. Stretched across the ridges and valleys of the upper Namorona River, this dense tangle of trees and plants, bathed in moist air from the Indian Ocean, is one of the most biodiverse places in the world. It’s hard to imagine that over 435 species of trees and other plants can fit in an area of 2 m1025! However, the park’s biggest attraction is the lemurs – there are twelve species of them here. During day or night trips around the park, you can easily spot a group of these cute, big-eyed furballs, and even watch them eagerly gobbling up banana slices left for them! In addition to them, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to around 20 species of other mammals, over 130 reptiles and amphibians, and 114 species of birds. Walking among this abundance, with orchids hanging overhead, is certainly an unforgettable experience.
