General Information
San Jose is the capital and largest city of Costa Rica. It is most often avoided by tourists, because unfortunately it does not make a good first impression due to its "concrete", heterogeneous urban development and street chaos. Nevertheless, it is worth giving it a chance to reveal its surprisingly friendly face to the traveler. Take a walk through the historic district of Barrio Amon, where Victorian mansions have been transformed into contemporary art galleries, restaurants and boutique hotels. Join the bustling crowds at Plaza de la Cultura, where street artists and vendors gather. Have a delicious Costa Rican coffee in the café in the National Theatre building. Visit the impressive Museum of Gold, Jade and Natural History, and you will begin to fully understand the multidimensionality of this city - the cultural capital of Costa Rica.
