Takayama

In the center of Takayama, buildings and spatial layout from the Edo period have been preserved. Here you can admire the shogun's palace and the houses of traders and craftsmen. Due to the enormous population density of Japan, few villages like this one have survived in this country - wide, spread out on the river. The city became famous as a settlement of lumberjacks, supposedly the best in Japan, who cut wood for the construction of temples in Kyoto. Takayama means high mountain and indeed the place is located high and surrounded by hills. Winter in Japan begins from here, here you can also admire cherry blossoms in spring and red maples in autumn. The buildings reflect the character of shoguns, geishas and monks, which no longer exist in the big cities of Japan.
