Practical information

Visa information and airport fees
Tourist visas for Polish citizens are not required for stays in Thailand of less than 30 days. The requirement is to have a passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival in Thailand. Upon landing in Thailand, passengers receive an entry form written in English, which must be filled in and presented at passport control.

The Travel Agency is not responsible for failure to obtain a visa for the country where the tourist event is held, or for transit countries. Obtaining a visa is 100% the responsibility of the participants of the trip.
Vaccinations
Before going on holiday to Thailand, vaccinations against diphtheria and tetanus, typhoid, rabies, cholera, Japanese encephalitis and hepatitis A and B are recommended, but the decision is left to the traveller's direct decision. No vaccinations are strictly required.
Tips
Tips are not required, but they are certainly appreciated, so it is worth leaving a small amount for a waitress in a restaurant, a porter in a hotel or a chambermaid. You can also remember the monks who look after the temples you visit, who do not expect anything for their work, but a few baht will certainly please them. In restaurants, the amount of a tip should be between 5% and 10% of the value of the order, but this is not imposed from above, just in good taste. It is best to prepare small amounts in local currency or dollars for the duration of your trip to Thailand.
Food prices
Food, especially in local restaurants and street stalls, is very cheap in Thailand. You can eat well and tasty for as little as one dollar. Example prices: beer in a restaurant 100 THB, a kilogram of apples 100 THB, mineral water 20 THB, coffee in a cafe 70 THB, a can of Coca-Cola 30 THB, Chang beer 60 THB.
Food
Dishes in Thailand are not only very cheap, but also incredibly diverse and tasty. Thai cuisine has been drawing inspiration from other, best cuisines in the world for years, including Chinese, Indian, Muslim, and even... European. As a rule, local dishes are characterized by spiciness, often softened with coconut milk. The basis of the daily Thai menu is of course rice, although noodles are also quite popular.

The most popular meat is poultry, and many chefs specialize in excellent fish and seafood. The national dish of Thailand is tom yam kung – a spicy and sour soup based on shrimp and tomatoes. Equally delicious is the chicken soup with coconut milk – tom kha gai. In Thai restaurants, you can't help but try various variations of curry: green, red, with coconut milk, mild or spicy... Thais also have a lot of desserts, most of which are prepared with coconut milk and exotic fruits, which are of course plentiful here. You should definitely try juicy, sweet mango, durian with an extremely intense smell, lychee, papaya, mangosteen, rambutan or bananas, which are more common in Europe, but which come in such numerous varieties in Thailand that there is definitely plenty to choose from.

The Thais’ favourite dessert is undoubtedly sticky rice with condensed milk and ripe mango – khao niaw mamuang. However, in the Thai heat we especially recommend freshly squeezed, thick juices from tropical fruits!
Interesting facts
  • For Thais, the head is the most important part of the body and for this reason, it is forbidden to touch other people's heads. This also applies to petting children.
  • The royal family is highly respected in Thailand. It is forbidden to criticize its members or to mishandle objects bearing the royal image, such as banknotes.
  • Raising your voice, arguing with the hotel staff, waitresses or vendors at the local market is considered uncultured. All matters in Thailand should be handled calmly, without unnecessary shouting and complaints, which are a sign of weakness for Thais.
  • The undisputed symbol of Thailand is the elephant. Elephant Day is celebrated here, and an elephant festival is also organized, and tribute is paid to them. These animals, important to the Thais, are objects of true worship. Even in the logo of the famous Thai beer called Chang, you will see nothing other than an elephant!
  • Thailand uses a calendar where year 0 is counted from the day of Buddha's death (paranibbana). The year 2015 is 2558 in Thailand.
  • Thailand is a land of orchids – there are about 1300 species of these flowers in the country, most of them do not even have equivalent names in Polish. Orchids grow here literally everywhere.

Learn more about Thailand

History
Although Thailand’s history dates back to antiquity, the first organized state in the area, the Sukhothai Kingdom, considered the beginning of Thai civilization, did not emerge until the 1782th century. A century later, the Ayutthaya Kingdom took over, becoming a powerful center of trade and culture in Southeast Asia. In the 1932th century, Ayutthaya was destroyed by the Burmese, leading to the creation of a new capital, Bangkok, in XNUMX, founded by the Chakri dynasty, which still rules today. In the XNUMXth century, Thailand, then known as Siam, skillfully maneuvered between colonial powers, maintaining its independence as the only state in the region. King Mongkut (Rama IV) and his son Chulalongkorn (Rama V) introduced sweeping modernization reforms that modernized the country. In the XNUMXth century, Thailand went through several regime changes, becoming a constitutional monarchy in XNUMX after a bloodless revolution. During World War II, the country was an ally of Japan, which influenced its international standing after the war. In the second half of the XNUMXth century, Thailand experienced many political changes, including several coups, but also dynamic economic development.
Geography
Thailand is located in Southeast Asia on the Indochina Peninsula and partly on the Malay Peninsula, bordering Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia and Burma, with a coastline of 3219 km. Thailand has access to the Indian Ocean, Pacific Ocean and Andaman Sea. The flora in the country is extremely diverse, and the most common vegetation is the humid monsoon forest, which is covered with sandalwood, teak and ebony. The most characteristic of Thai fauna are banteng, Indian elephants, various species of monkeys, tropical birds and reptiles.
Culture and Religion
Thailand is a constitutional monarchy, where power is held by the king and parliament. Even the slightest insult to the royal family or disrespect for the king's image can result in imprisonment. Much attention is paid to the anthem, which is usually played twice a day at fixed times. When the anthem is played, all life stops, cars stop, and pedestrians stand at attention.

When in Thailand, you should remember two taboos, which are body parts: the head and the foot. While the head is considered sacred and should not be touched, even when trying to pet someone, the feet are considered filthy. Pointing your feet at local residents is a great offense, as is stepping over someone who is sitting or lying down. Even trying to stop a rolling coin with your foot can be considered shameful (the foot touching the king's head). You should also remember about your feet when entering someone's home, and often even a shop - you go barefoot indoors, and leave your shoes at the door.

Thais are extremely friendly and open, hence questions about the private lives of Western tourists are very common, which usually cause embarrassment (earnings, body weight, number of partners, etc.). Another interesting fact is that Thais are extremely superstitious, so for example each day of the week has its lucky and unlucky color counterpart. For this reason, it should come as no surprise that on Tuesdays, for example, many locals wear pink.

Thailand is famous for its distinctive court dance, music, temple architecture, silk, and spectacular martial art, muay thai. All of these elements came to Siam from its once more powerful neighbor, Angkor, which the Thais eventually conquered.

The dominant religion in Thailand is Buddhism, practiced by about 93% of the population, primarily in the form of Theravada Buddhism. Buddhism plays a key role in Thai daily life, influencing culture, education, and social ethics. Buddhist monks are held in high regard, and religious ceremonies and holidays, such as Songkran (Thai New Year), are widely celebrated. In addition to Buddhism, Thailand has minority religious groups, including Muslims (about 4% of the population), mostly in the southern provinces of the country, and Christians and Hindus. These religions influence local customs and practices, creating a unique cultural mix. Thais also practice animism and folk beliefs, including belief in spirits (phi) and respect for ancestors. Religion and beliefs in Thailand are integrated into everyday life, where modernity and tradition intertwine. Buddhist temples (wat) are ubiquitous, and religious symbols are visible in architecture, art, and ceremonies.

Holidays in Thailand – practical information

Thailand is a paradise for lovers of good cuisine, different cultures and colorful temples, nature and heavenly beaches. The country has a lot to offer and everyone will find something that suits their travel preferences. Thailand is safe for tourists, a visa is not required for Polish citizens coming for a period shorter than three months, and international and domestic airports allow for a comfortable journey through the land of smiles, as Thailand is often called. A trip to Thailand can easily be diversified by visiting other countries of Southeast Asia.

Visiting Thailand – what is worth seeing?

Thailand is one of the most popular destinations for a first exotic trip. Historic capitals, jungles ideal for trekking, delicious food, atmospheric, although initially a bit chaotic Bangkok and hundreds of beautiful beaches - these are just some of the possibilities that await you during a luxury holiday in Thailand. Additionally, almost 1500 Thai islands will allow you to have a perfect rest, regardless of whether you want to dive, party or spend a few days in peace and quiet on almost deserted beaches - you will easily find all of this during your trip to Thailand.

Thailand Attractions - Holiday Guide

Almost 1600 kilometers from north to south and just over 700 from east to east - the territory occupied by the former Siam gives you the opportunity to combine exclusive holidays in Thailand spent in five-star hotels, with the highest quality services, trekking through wild, evergreen jungles or visiting charming and non-commercial towns. Neither the youngest nor the older generations will be bored on vacation in this place. What's more, the multitude of available flights allows you to easily jump for a day or two to the not-so-distant Angkor Wat in the area Cambodia, to fascinating Singapore or to the beaches of northern Malaysia, so we can tailor your luxury holiday in Thailand in almost any way you like.

Thai Island Hopping

Koh Kradan, perfect for diving, Koh Phi Phi in the movies, Koh Phangan for fun or Koh Yao Yai & Noi for lazy days? A luxury holiday in Thailand is the opportunity to discover all these possibilities during one of the numerous island cruises that take place here, as well as the chance to discover small, often unnamed, deserted islands that will often be exclusively at your disposal!

Mi Krop, durian and the famous pad thai

Thai cuisine is one of the best and most popular in the world. During an exclusive trip to Thailand, you will have the opportunity to try the most important delicacies of Southeast Asia, which include mi krop – crispy rice noodles in a spicy-sweet sauce, pad thai – a mixture of noodles with vegetables, meat or tofu, sprouts, egg and fish sauce, and the beloved or hated durian! The fruit with a characteristic shape also has a slightly peculiar taste and smell, described by some as a combination of raspberries and nuts, by others as butter with fried onions... Eating it, or even bringing it in, is prohibited in some public places, but similarly to the roasted or fried insects that you will commonly find here in street food, it is certainly an experience that you should have during your holiday in Thailand!

Bangkok

Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, located on both banks of the Chao Praya River, is considered one of the hottest cities in the world. Its name in Thai consists of 176 characters, but for us it will always be the Big Mango - a city tempting with its cultural richness, smelling of aromatic Asian cuisine and delighting with over 400 Buddhist temples. Bangkok is the perfect place for the first contact with Southeast Asia, where the tradition of Thai life mixes with modernity. A must-see on every trip to Bangkok is Rattanakosin Island, where the Grand Palace is located along with Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha). This place delights with oriental architecture and golden details. On the opposite bank of the Chao Praya is Wat Arun (Temple of the Dawn), from which you can admire a beautiful view of the river and the Grand Palace complex. The Temple of Dawn attracts attention with its rich colors and detailed decorations made of crushed Chinese porcelain. While in Bangkok, be sure to visit one of the world's largest Chinatowns. China Town captivates with its incredible neon lights, offers street food and encourages you to spend time talking at a plastic table until late at night.

Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai, located in the northern part of Thailand, is a city of stunning temples, aromatic cuisine and colourful bazaars. It is surrounded by picturesque mountains, including the impressive Crow Pond Peak, or Doi Inthanon, the highest mountain in Thailand, and evergreen cloud forests. Tours around the area are an essential part of a stay in Chiang Mai. Small villages inhabited by indigenous tribes are hidden among the local hills. At the famous night market, located on the eastern side of the Old City, along Chang Khlan Street, you can buy souvenirs, try local delicacies, relax with a massage and even play chess. And when you get bored, remember that this is not the only such market in Chiang Mai. Walking along the moat around the Old City, you can admire the preserved city walls from 700 years ago. During the construction of the defensive fortifications, which took only four months, as many as 40 workers worked. Each of the four original gates had its own separate use in everyday life, and they were the only way to get into the city until World War II.

Khao Lak

Khao Lak is located in the Phang Nga province on the west coast of Thailand. This picturesque spot offers ideal conditions for those who want to escape the crowds and find peace on beautiful, white beaches surrounded by lush vegetation. It is a paradise for nature lovers and a gateway to the underwater world. If you are passionate about diving, you must come to Khao Lak and immerse yourself in the depths of the Andaman Sea. There are many diving centers in Khao Lak offering various options for divers. Both beginners and experienced divers will find an option for themselves. You can take part in one-day diving trips, multi-day diving safaris or specialist courses. The best time to go diving is during our winter, when the waters are quite calm and the visibility is the best.

Khao sok

The Khao Sok jungle is one of the oldest in Thailand. It is a truly untouched area, home to a multitude of different species of animals – hundreds of exotic birds, as well as gibbons, gaurs, macaques, elephants, Malayan bears, and even tigers and leopards. The Cheow Lan Lake is also located in the Khao Sok National Park. To experience the untouched nature even better during a Khao Sok safari, it is worth deciding on a multi-day trip, combined with a kayaking or rafting trip. You can also see its inhabitants from the water – elephants at a watering hole, majestic herons, colorful kingfishers and much more! If you do not manage to see wild elephants in their natural environment, go to the Elephant Sanctuary. You will be able to learn many interesting facts about the life and habits of the largest land mammals, take part in their feeding, and even enjoy a nourishing, mud SPA together.

Similan Islands

The Similan Islands, often called the “Thai Seychelles”, are an archipelago of several uninhabited islands that together form the Mu Koh Similan National Park. The Similan Islands are famous for their excellent diving and snorkeling conditions – the abundance of corals and colourful fish will delight every snorkelling enthusiast. With a bit of luck, you might be able to spot a manta ray or a shark. The visibility in the water here is up to 30 metres! You can book a trip to the archipelago at one of the local travel agencies.

Koh Yao Yai and Koh Yao Noi

Between the crowded Phuket in the west and Krabi province in the east, in the heart of Phang Nga Bay, lie two relatively large Thai islands, Koh Yao Yai and Koh Yao Noi. Life on Koh Yao Yai and Koh Yao Noi moves slowly, as if the rush of civilization had passed them by. The locals mainly engage in agriculture in a rather traditional form. The relaxed atmosphere of Koh Yao Yai and Koh Yao Noi is conducive to relaxation, and the more active will find great conditions for snorkeling, kayaking and hiking.

Exclusive hotels in Thailand

Hotels in Thailand offer almost 800 thousand rooms, so you can easily find both simple and inexpensive facilities, such as Thapwarin or Ton Nam Homestay, and boutique and atmospheric gems, including Tamarind Village and Sevenseas Resort. There is also no shortage of top-class hotels, which are the perfect ending to a luxury trip to Thailand, of which we especially recommend The Surin, Rayavadee, Six Senses and The Sarojin.

Finally, Koh Samui offers not only beautiful beaches, but also waterfalls and tropical gardens, making it the perfect place for relaxation and adventure.

When to go to Thailand?

WEATHER IN THAILAND

Thailand is a year-round destination. The northern and central parts of the country have a tropical climate, while the coasts of the Malay Peninsula are subject to seasonal monsoons at different times of the year.

CENTRAL AND NORTHERN THAILAND
In northern and central Thailand, the dry season lasts from November to May. After winter (December, January), when temperatures in mountainous regions can drop to +5 at night, the hot season begins and the mercury reaches 30° C. From May to July, the region is subject to the influence of the southwest monsoon, which gradually gains strength, reaching its maximum in August and September.

WEST COAST
On Phuket, the Krabi Peninsula or the islands of Koh Lanta and Koh Ngai, the best weather is from November to March. Then, a gentle breeze lowers the perceived humidity and maintains a pleasant temperature (26-32°C). The monsoon arrives here at the end of May, reaching its peak rainfall in September and October. In the remaining months, there may be short-term downpours in the afternoon.

EAST COAST
On the islands of the Gulf of Thailand: Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao, excellent weather prevails from February to August. Temperatures oscillate between 28 and 30°C, and pleasant, gentle winds create ideal conditions for water sports. At the turn of August and September, the islands experience a monsoon bringing abundant rainfall, with a maximum in October and November.
